Sapadere Canyon

If you are considering visiting Alanya, we recommend that you read this article.

Sapadere Canyon is a natural attraction worth visiting if you like nature and walks. The canyon was opened in 2008, before that only local residents knew it. The approximate size of the canyon is 800 m in length and 400 m in height, and it was formed by water, ice and wind erosion. You will be amazed by the picturesque landscapes of nature, the numerous small waterfalls rushing along the stones, various plants and amines, especially birds and butterflies.

Even the air in the canyon Sapadera is different from the coast, it is more fresh, which creates a pleasant rest in the summer heat. Moreover, turquoise water rarely rises above 10 degrees Celsius, although the air reaches 30+. At the end of the path there is the opportunity to jump into the pool with natural water or go down the stairs to try the water yourself. An environmentally friendly wooden platform was built along the river for visitors.

You can make an individual trip to the canyon of Sapadera, take a taxi or join an organized tour. If you drive yourself, 20 km east of the center of Alanya, then turn left to the village of Demirtash, drive up to the village and follow the signs to Sapadere Canyon.

If you decide to take part in an organized tour, you will be picked up from the hotel (place of residence) usually from 9 to 10 in the morning by air-conditioned bus. Tours are mainly conducted in English or German. The price is around 25 euros and mainly includes lunch and entrance to the canyon. Except for a 45-minute walk through the canyon, the tour usually offers a richer program, including, for example, visiting the Sapadere village, a mosque, an old water mill, a silk workshop or fruit orchards where you can pick fresh oranges or sample local and exotic fruits. In addition, you may have the opportunity to visit the so-called Dwarven Cave, which was only open to the public last year. Tourists also call it the “Rainbow Cave” because of its various colors of stalactites.

Practical information:

There are no opening hours for the canyon, you can come at any time during the day.

Remember to bring enough water with you. At the entrance there is a restaurant and a teahouse in the canyon where you can buy drinks. Drinks are paid extra if you take an organized tour.

Bold can take bikinis and swimming shorts to swim in the river.

Toilets are located at the entrance and in the middle of the canyon.

Be sure to close your head! The water stays cool and refreshes the water, but the sun remains the same.
